Creative? Yeah, I’d say I’ve got some creativity in me. But then, posting myself on the web means it’s no longer mine to decide. Take a browse through some of my work and judge for yourself, then come back and take the poll—I’ll try not to cry at the results.
“A Twisted Monopoly”
If you’ve ever wondered where the classic game Monopoly came from, you might be surprised to find out. I certainly was.
“Buried Pleasure”
This was part of a short stint into the world of poetry. When I was in elementary school, my friends and I used to spend our lunches digging up what we called “sand rocks” from the sand box. I still think it’s an awesome activity that I need to do more often.
“Challenging Canada”
This essay doesn’t have much of a point—as my professor made very clear to me—but it’s a pretty funny character sketch of a bunch of guys who have a fateful and mildly tragic trek into the great white north.
“Devoured”
Those of us who have brothers know that we’re not always as far away from the mind of Cain as we’d like to think. At least I’m not.
“Lapped by the Fire”
I wrote this for my parents for their 25th wedding anniversary. They walked an incredibly hard road together, and though it wasn’t easy for the two little boys they brought along for the ride, they did what they could and deserve a great deal of admiration for it.
“Repetition”
It’s not easy finding out that you’re the weird kid, but having someone who understood what it’s like may have saved me more than I know.
“The Watch”
Are we fated to follow the sins and failures of our fathers, or are we free to forge our own paths? I still struggle with this question, but this essay was a small step in that path.
“We May Never Understand”
All about adoption: what it’s like for the parents, what it’s like for the kids, and how little the rest of us really understand it.
“Wholeness”
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to think like a dog, this is for you.
